Anhelo Restaurant is located in Heritage Square in Phoenix, Arizona. Anhelo is the creation of Ivan Jacobo, age 27, who was in elementary school when Chris Bianco go his James Beard Award. Ivan put his blood, sweat and tears into the restaurant by laying the floors, wired the lights and painted the walls.
Prior to opening Anhelo Restaurant he got his start by opening a pop-up dinner company where he sold only two seats. He decided to give away the other eighteen seats and the event was a huge success. He had a food truck before that but lost the truck when he was rear ended on a freeway.
Ivan truly has a heart of gold as the closes the restaurant from three to four in the afternoon so the employees can enjoy a free meal. He believes in “zero waste” by taking any food that is left over in the kitchen to a farm in Chandler, Arizona to be composted. In return, he purchases their fresh eggs.
There are only fifty-seven positive posts on the internet, but they do give Anhelo Restaurant a strong four- and one-half star rating. One of the reasons is he works with customers who have dietary restrictions to create a custom menu.
